How far would you go for a brand new Kitchen-Aid Stand Mixer? (Not that red one, that's mine--but maybe a hot pink one, like I hear Williams Sonoma carries now...)
Would you send in your favorite recipe? Would you make a video of yourself cooking it? Would you take a picture of yourself with your favorite local chef?

I know, I've been promising all kinds of stuff like Bocuse pics and whatnot, but I've been crazed! And today, I have even cooler news than that, so here it is.
On the Steamy Side is a real book! I'm so in love with that cover, I want to run away to Aruba with it. My husband says he totally understands, and wishes me well. Yay!

It's Release Day! At long last. Can't Stand the Heat hit bookshelves today. Pre-ordered copies have shipped. Very soon, almost instantaneously, you can have it in your hot little hands! I truly can't wait to hear what you all think of it. Well, the good stuff, anyway. Let's be honest, I could wait a while to hear that you hated it with the heat of a nova. But surely that won't happen! Everyone will love it!
I've realized publishing a book is a lot like sending your child off to school for the first time. The idea that someone might not adore it as much as you do (as much as your mom does, even) is painful. But that's life--no one and nothing is universally beloved. Except Can't Stand the Heat. Kidding! Seriously, give it to me straight. I've got more books to write after this one, I could use the constructive criticism. : )

I have finished books. Not cover flats, although those were lovely and exciting, and not ARCs, although I squeed over those, too. No. These are the real deal! Finished, completed, ready to be read by people other than my family and friends, and a few select and cherished reviewers.

 I did take a few pics of myself holding up a copy and smiling, but had to delete them. Upon mature consideration, it became clear that no reader in her right mind would buy a book written by someone sporting such a wild, maniacal grin.
Now what this really means for all of you lovely people who've been clamoring for an early peek at Can't Stand the Heat is that I have one, single, solitary Advance Reading Copy I've been saving for a rainy day. What do you think I should do with that ARC, hmmm? I'm thinking contest. Maybe even a recipe contest, where you'd send in your favorite recipe featuring something summery like corn or tomatoes. I'd pick the one that sounds best and award that cook a free, signed copy of my last ARC of Can't Stand the Heat.

 My new Kindle 2 arrived last night, and this morning it's all charged up and ready to go. I'm going to have a seriously hard time concentrating on anything today other than all the books I want to buy! I'm already adding my stats to the study that found people who own ereaders don't purchase fewer print books--they purchase more books total, because they buy more ebooks AND more print books. I just Whispernetted Dark of Night by Suzanne Brockmann, which I totally already own in hardcover, because I think I'll enjoy reading it more on the smaller, lighter Kindle.
I got the Kindle 2 because, let's face it, I cannot resist hype. Also, I hate it when Stinger owns some cool gadget and I don't. Marriage is an equal partnership, people--he doesn't get to have anything I don't have. I even caused myself incalculable trouble and annoyance by insisting on officially and legally keeping all of my names after we were married (Mary Louisa Edwards White for those of you who are studying up for the soon-to-be-released trivia game) simply because Stinger has four names. It was a huge mistake--they don't even all fit on my driver's license.
The other, less psycho-sounding reason is my brilliant plan to launch my first ever author website (which is almost finished and looking gorgeous!) with a contest to win a brand new Kindle 2! And I wanted to know how the thing worked before giving one away. Won't that be a fun contest, though? You'd all enter, right? And tell your friends?
